‘Dhaka_Lucerne’, an introspective art exhibition in Switzerland
Dhaka based artists Amirul Rajiv, Bashir Ahmed Sujan and Naim Ul Hasan were invited by the Swiss artists Anna Gallati, Oscar Lussi and Julian Blum to participate in a joint project, in which they took twenty photographs daily for seven days. The result of their collaboration was the group photo exhibition, 'Dhaka_Lucerne', which opened on July 10 at Teiggi Studio and Exhibition Space in Kriens, Lucerne, Switzerland.
The creative effort of the six prominent and promising artists yielded a collection of eight hundred and forty photographs, half of which were shot in Switzerland, and the others were snapped in Bangladesh. Exhibited in printed form, they provide an intimate insight into the everyday life in both countries, creating an enthralling dialogue between various scenes in very different locations. The juxtaposition of the images on display create an amalgamation of day to day life in two different countries of two different continents, with different socio-economic realities.
"The participating artists of the project previously decided to do more than merely a collaboration between themselves," said Amirul Rajiv, a famous curator and art event organiser. "All the proceeds from the photographs will benefit artists in Bangladesh who are experiencing great challenges in the Covid-19 pandemic."
The exhibition was opened with an introductory speech by eminent architect Niklaus Graber of Graber & Steiger, who successfully curated the exhibition, 'Bengal Stream: Vibrant Architecture Scene of Bangladesh' several years ago. The exhibition ends on July 18.
