Chayanika Chowdhury opens up about ‘Bishwa Shundori’, Puja plans
Celebrated director Chayanika Chowdhury has been successful in the television industry for the last two decades, working with some of the most prolific actors.
She is set to make her directorial debut on the silver screen with "Bishwa Shundori", starring Siam Ahmed and Pori Moni. The release of the film is yet to be finalised. "The final decision will be the producer's call," shares Chayanika. "We definitely want to release it in theatres, so we will wait for the right time."
The director is preparing for her next film, which is expected to start from April 2021. "We are working on the script revisions; that is all I can share at the moment," she says. In the meantime, she has been working on a web project.
As Durga Puja arrives, the director shares her plans for this year. "Due to the pandemic, we have to consider the fact that celebrations will be limited this year," says Chayanika. "However, we plan to visit the Dhakeshwari Temple, meet our parents and cook traditional dishes at home."
"I was brought up in Old Dhaka, the heart of grand celebrations of all festivals," she further adds. She enjoys seeing the entire city celebrating the festival, and appreciates the fact that there are so many Puja specials on television during the season.
Chayanika has directed two television projects for Durga Puja - "Annapurna" and "Bishwa Bhora Pran". With a screenplay from Masum Shahriar, "Annapurna" features Abul Hayat , Zakia Bari Mamo, Mili Basher, Sarika Sabah and Shaon.
Written by Faria Hossain, "Bishwa Bhora Pran" stars Abul Hayat, Sharmili Ahmed, Tarin Jahan, Rawnak Hasan and Urmila Srabanti Kar.
Chayanika explains that working during the pandemic has taught her new things. "It has taught us that we can survive with simple things," she asserts. "We used to work with a big team of around 30 people before the pandemic. Now, we are working with half of them without hampering the project." She also shares that she brought homemade food at the shoots.
Chayanika's journey of twenty years has not been one without challenges. "Though I have gained praise and earned so much love from the artistes and audiences, my journey was not easy," she says.
Despite the criticism and the demotivating atmosphere, she marched forward with dedication. "My audiences and loved ones are my biggest support. Those who have criticised me are the ones who have helped me grow and evolve into the person that I am today," she concludes.
