Catching up with Shan Shaik
Renowned singer Shan Shaik started his career with the band Emotions in 1998. His compositions for the album "Shadakalo", featuring Fahmida Nabi was honoured with the prestigious Channel i Music Award.
The singer has also bagged AJFB Award in the Best Male Singer category for his song "Konnare" in 2019. He recently released a duet song, titled "Shyam Lila" to welcome the new year -- where he paired up with the young and talented Abanti Sithi. The Daily Star caught up with the artiste to know more about his upcoming releases and plans.
Tell us about your experience while recording "Shyam Lila".
"Shyam Lila" is an original track inspired by Shreekrishna Kirtana. It is written by my elder sister Tania Sultana, and composed by me. The song was released on the official YouTube channel of Musicart.
I had always wanted to come up with a modern adaptation of this beautiful melody, and it feels great to be able to essence I was looking for. I hope the audience loves it as much as we enjoyed recording the number. Abanti Sithi did a brilliant job as well.
What have you been busy with?
I have released singles like "Tor Shokal", "Toke Chara", "Ekbar Jodi Bolo" and "Chhute Chai", among others. I have also composed some songs featuring singers Bani, Doly Shaontoni, Rajashree Acharjee, Mitu Karmakar, Mariom Maria ad Shamim. The tracks are written by noted lyricists Jahangir Rana, Jhumur Akter, Sayed Rahman and Atiur Rahman.
How did you manage to cope up with the 'new normal' in this pandemic?
I began learning music from my father Guruji Md Salah Uddin and went on to learn to play multiple instruments such as the guitar, keyboard, drums, flute, and harmonica, among others. During the lockdown, I could not work with my usual team, but luckily, I have two studios, one at my residence and the other at my office. I had to play all the instruments by myself and later merge them which was hectic and time-consuming. However, music was my muse during the days of lockdown.
What upcoming releases are you looking forward to this year?
I am currently working on 3 solo tracks, and have already finished recording a duet with Kona. I am also compositing a few other solo numbers for her. Alongside that I am looking forward to introducing a few fresh faces through my compositions this year.
