Cartoon People Gaan-Toon Caricature Challenge’s first edition to feature Jon Kabir
To keep people engaged during the coronavirus pandemic, Cartoon People launched their online contest, titled Cartoon People Gaan-Toon Caricature Challenge, recently. In the first edition of the challenge, artistes from all over the country were asked to present their caricatures of renowned musician Jon Kabir.
The jury panel for the challenge includes Syed Rashad Imam Tanmoy, the founder of Cartoon People, and noted poet and journalist Anik Khan, the advisor to Cartoon People. "We have also invited each musician for their desired round to be the judge and choose the caricature they like best," shares Tanmoy. "As individuals, some of us often fail to take humour lightly and instead, take it as an offence. Through this initiative, we hope people become more tolerant towards the concept of caricatures."
Jon Kabir, being the first artiste, feels privileged to be a part of this initiative. "Every work that is out there is very good and it only portrays how beautiful each artist is from the inside," he shares. "In the era of social media, the first priority of any active individual is validation and this gives birth to resistance. However, sometimes people fail to maintain the fine line between fun and mockery, and this begets the fear of not being accepted, in most people. However, humour presented in a healthy way is always worth appreciating."
Jon Kabir: GaanToon Caricature Challenge-1 will be held online today at 9 pm on the official Facebook page of Cartoon People in the presence of the jury members. The winner of this challenge will get the chance to join the Facebook Live alongside the judges. The upcoming segments of this challenge will feature other renowned musicians, including George Lincoln D'Costa, Raef Al Hasan Rafa, Elita Karim, Fuad Almuqtadir, Topu, Saif Zohan, Xefer Rahman, Armeen Musa and rock band Arbovirus.
