Biswajit Chatterjee to be honoured with Indian Personality of the Year Award by the IFFI
The 51st edition of the International Film Festival of India in Goa has decided to confer actor Biswajit Chatterjee with the Indian Personality of the Year Award, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
The decision to honour the 84-year-old actor was announced at the opening ceremony of the Festival, by India's Information and Broadcasting Minister, Prakash Javadekar.
He said that the award would be presented to Biswajit Chatterjee, when the National Film Awards are presented in March.
Some of Biswajit's notable Bangla films include "Monihaar" with Soumitra Chatterjee, "Chowringhee" and "Garh Nasimpur" with Uttam Kumar, "Kuheli", "Srimaan Prithviraj", and "Amar Geeti". In 1975, Biswajit produced and directed his own film, Kahte Hai Mujhko Raja.
Apart from acting and direction, he has also been a singer and a producer.
In Hindi cinema, Biswajit Chatterjee is known for his roles in "Bees Saal Baad", "Kohra", "April Fool", "Mere Sanam", "Do Kaliyaan" and "Kismat" and was usually paired with notable actresses like Asha Parekh, Waheeda Rehman, Mumtaz, Mala Sinha and Rajshree.
