'Amar Dhaka' and 'Amar Kolkata' unveiled at Bengal Boi
Bengal Boi hosted a book launch event during which two books, Amar Dhaka by Shamsur Rahman and Amar Kolkata by Belal Choudhury were proudly presented. The editor of Prothom Alo, Matiur Rahman graced the occasion with his presence and read out few passages from both the books. Amar Dhaka provides a deep insight into the unseen beauty of Puran Dhaka. Shamsur Rahman believed that the true essence of a city does not lie in the sparkling lights or the long roads or the horn of vehicles. He found the quintessence of Dhaka lying on its footpaths. He saw it as people who survived in slums, and felt the city like no one can ever do. On the other hand, Amar Kolkata brings out the general life of a typical citizen in the city. It embraces the city with warm, welcoming arms stretching to reach the inner peace of the city renowned for its crowded streets. In short, both the books contain poems and proses, as written by the original authors with a blend of modern taste by Bengali poet Piyash Mujid, who said that working on this project was a lifetime experience for him. These books see two cities through the vision of a general citizen. They portray the expectations, satisfactions, fears and securitiesof the citizens of the places. Most importantly, they are about two people beholding their journeys and travel stories.
Also present at the book launch was Luva Nahid Chowdhury, who expressed her pleasure on being a part of the event and read out her favourite paragraphs from the books. Renowned artist Rafiqun Nabi, who illustrated the books, shared his delight on getting the opportunity to work with authors like Shamsur Rahman and Belal Chowdhury. He said that the books were a journey he will cherish for a lifetime. These anecdotes of familliar lands wrapped up in the form of two beautiful books is a must-read for people of all ages.
