Actors Equity Bangladesh issues official statement in support of journalist Rozina Islam

Actors Equity Bangladesh, headed by President Shahiduzzaman Selim and General Secretary Ahsan Habib Nasim, issued a statement criticising the arrest of Prothom Alo journalist Rozina Islam yesterday.

"Where our honourable Prime Minister herself is strongly against corruption, these action by public servants are not acceptable at all," said the statement. "We are angry and shocked at the mental and physical harrassment of Rozina Islam. 

The statement further said that a ministry is supposed to be the safest place in the country, and such events are shocking and shameful. 



The Actors Equity demanded immediate release of Rozina Islam and exemplary punishment of her harrassers. 



Rozina Islam, known for unearthing government corruption, was charged under the Official Secrets act on Monday, for "stealing ministry documents".
