AARONG: 40 years of upholding heritage
For 40 years, Aarong has been a bridge between the urban and the rural by providing a platform for local artistes to showcase their work. Aarong, therefore, is more than just a brand for many – it is a statement.
To celebrate Aarong's 40 years of excellence, a 3-day long event titled 'Aarong 40 Years Festival' started yesterday. The event was inaugurated at Bangladesh Army Stadium. Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, the founder and chairman of BRAC, Asaduzzaman Noor, Minister of Cultural Affairs of the Government of Bangladesh, Tamara Hasan Abed, Senior Director, BRAC were present at the inauguration ceremony.
“From the beginning of our journey, we have realised that the people of rural Bangladesh are full of potential,” said Tamara Hasan Abed at the event. “Aarong aspires to utilise this potential through local crafts.”
“Aarong has helped a lot of people become independent, especially the women in our country, who have benefitted from it,” said Asaduzzaman Noor.
Sir Fazle Hasan Abed also spoke about Brac and Aarong's journey at the inauguration ceremony.
A unique exhibition of local crafts, including a live demonstration by artisans, is held at the festival. Visitors will also get to enjoy a gala fashion show, featuring designs from Taaga, Taaga Man and Herstory, alongside singer Elita Karim's ravishing performance today. A musical night with James, Joler Gaan, Nemesis and Minar will take place tomorrow.
