Deepa: Beyond the small screen
For the last fifteen years, Deepa Khandakar has secured a strong foothold in television, with many acclaimed performances to date. But the actor is exploring bigger terrains today, and is slated to work in a film for the first time. Titled “Bhaijaan Elo Re”, the actor has been spending some time in London, UK, for filming. The Daily Star has recently reached out to Deepa via a long distance call to find out more about her latest project.
How's filming going so far in London?
Deepa: It's going pretty well. Shakib Khan, Kolkata's Srabonti, and I traveled to Kolkata before this to shoot a portion of the film, before moving to London to wrap things up. But the rains are making things a bit difficult.
Difficult in what way?
Deepa: Well, sometimes it just starts to randomly rain, which hinders our progress. If it weren't for that, we'd have been able to film scenes at a stretch. It's also rather cold here.
Did you get a chance to do some sight-seeing?
Deepa: Not really, as we are trying to wrap things up as soon as possible. However, we did get a rare day off where we all ventured into Central London.
What has it been like working alongside Kolkata's beloved Srabonti?
Deepa: The entire crew here is so incredibly nice. Srabonti calls me 'didi', and I show affection as an elder sister by calling her by her name. She's an incredibly sweet girl, and has a great sense of humour.
What has it been like working with the director Joydip Mukherjee?
Deepa: It has been exhilarating. He is an accomplished director, and incredibly professional in getting things done. I am extremely happy to be a part of his film.
When do you plan to return to Bangladesh?
Deepa: I am coming back on the 12th . My heart has been pining for home, and as soon as I'm back I want to watch “Swapnajaal”. Shahed Ali, my husband, has not watched the film yet despite acting in it, because he's been waiting for me.
