Pearl Jam, Beyonce, Coldplay and Sheeran to headline anti-poverty concert
Pearl Jam, Beyonce, Coldplay and Ed Sheeran will perform at the 2015 Global Citizen Festival in New York's Central Park in September. The show, timed to coincide with the UN General Assembly meeting, will be broadcast on the BBC.
The meeting of world leaders will announce new goals designed to fight inequality, tackle climate change and extreme poverty.
It's being organised by film director Richard Curtis. He told BBC he'd be using many of the skills he learned while organising Red Nose Day to bring attention to the concert.
One Direction recently said they wanted to help change the world for the better. Richard did not give details, but said the band would be part of his plans.
Richard further said one of the biggest contributions he's had organising the music has been from Coldplay's Chris Martin.
“Chris is the musical director so he's had a lot to do with making the calls. I haven't had to make any calls myself. As far as the concert is concerned, I'm a filmmaker. What I have been doing is commissioning films about what has been done and making a film about what we hope will happen over the next 15 years.”
