The essence of Letters

An exclusive recitation event titled 'Potro Kabbo' was held recently at the public library's Shawkat Osman auditorium in the capital. The event was conducted by the cultural organisation Muktodhara Swangshkriti Charcheya Kendra (MSCK).

The art of letter writing has been in practice for a very long time, and the event highlighted that very essence using a recitation approach, which placed it in a class of its own. On par with the aesthetics of cadence and word play, the literary work presented at the event was arranged and directed by Md Siddikur Rahman Parvez, who is also the General Secretary of Muktodhara Swangshkriti Charcheya Kendra.

“In this era of advanced technology, we simply tried to revive the art and the essence of letter writing. A letter in its tangible form, has a uniqueness about it that is unmatched by e-mails,” Md Siddikur Rahman Parvez told The Daily Star. Seventeen different artistes voiced over twenty different letters on stage and managed to keep the audience enthralled throughout the programme. Various other names from the literary field were present during the event, including Ashraful Alam, Bulbul Mahalanobis, Iqbal Khurshid Zafar and others.

The stage, background music and lighting, in perfect sync with the dedication of artistes, set the ideal ambience for the audience to make it a memorable evening of performance art. “We look forward to a second chapter of a similar event in the near future,” informed Md Siddikur Rahman Parvez.
