Japan-Bangladesh Art Exhibition concludes in Tokyo
Japan Bangladesh Cultural Society together with Gallery Mrittika, Bangladesh organised an art exhibition at Orange Art Gallery, Ikebukuro, Tokyo, Japan. Titled as “Japan-Bangladesh Art exhibition: First Pool”, the four-day (April 14-17) exhibition concluded yesterday.
The exhibition featured visual arts by several Bangladeshi artists and photographers -- Dinar Sultana, Shubho Saha, Gazi Naimul Islam, Mahema Begum, Ripon Barua and Istiaq Kabir. Promising artist-curator Sumana Akter took part in the exhibition as a guest artist. Visual artist and curator Muhammad Solayman Hossain curated the show.
Among the participating artists, Dinar Sultana bagged an award in painting while Shubho Saha received an award in photography. Their multiple works were displayed at the exhibition.
Dinar Sultana works with natural materials to articulate her sensual expression of freedom. Born and raised in Bangladesh, she has pursued her fine art education in India with a Bachelor's degree in Visual Art from Visva-Bharati University along with a Master's degree from MS University, Baroda. Her award winning artwork titled “Fragments of Life” (A series of works) takes up the challenge of looking life in fragments –spaces of circumstances linked only by their proximity on the display. Dinar's every works has their introspective personal connection to her very own experiences.
Shubho Saha is a Dhaka-based interdisciplinary artist, a founding member of Back Art Foundation and the director of the Dhaka Live Art Biennale. The artist completed both his BFA and MFA from the Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka. Shubho's award winning work titled “Drawing in the Air: Native Myth” sheds light on rural Bangladeshi people's keen belief in the supernatural and the magical power exists in the nature. He works with the popular belief of rebirth, soul reformation and supernatural activities of unsatisfied soul.
On behalf of Rabab Fatima, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Japan, Mohammad Jobayed Hosen, First Secretary and Head of the Embassy and noted Bangladeshi artist and curator Wakilur Rahman inaugurated the exhibition on April 14. Directed by Muhammad Solayman Hossain, Jobayed Hosen, Wakilur Rahman, Shaheen Chowdhury, Rahman Moni, Sumana Akter, Dinar Sultana and Shubho Saha spoke at the inaugural ceremony.
