A bright future in dance
The fact that Madhurima Roy Chowdhury is only fourteen years old is not evident when she graces the stage with her eloquent dancing. She has been trained in Bharatanatyam since she was only four.
Recently, she stood first in the Bharatanatyam category of the National Dance Competition. The competition had different stages and was organised by Bangladesh Shishu Academy. Madhurima had to prove herself in every stage of the competition.
The very first round took place in January, where she won the initial rounds in the district level and also in the division level of the competition. Finally, among the eight divisions of Bangladesh, she represented her own division in the competition. She received a gold medal from the Hon'ble President of Bangladesh.
Madhurima has been practicing Bharatnatyam for ten years. She seamlessly balances her academic responsibilities and her passion for dancing. She is currently studying in class eight in The Aga Khan School. “I participated in the competition for the very first time. I feel wonderful winning the gold medal and being able to participate in every stage,” says an ecstatic Madhurima. “All I want to do in the future is to keep improving as a dancer.”
Madhurima has been training in dance school 'Kolpotoru''. Her teachers were Amit Chowdhury and Arthy Ahmed. However, Madhurima has trained extensively under Smt. Kirti Ramgopal of Bangalore. Kirti Ramgopal visits ‘Kolpotoru’ three to four times a year.
