A Dhaka court today issued arrest warrant against Supreme Court lawyer Tuhin Malik in a defamation case filed for his derogatory remarks on Bangabandhu as he failed to appear before it.

Metropolitan Magistrate Shamsul Arefin passed the order saying that Malik violated the court’s December 9 order asking him to appear before it today.

Golam Rabbani, international affairs deputy secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League Central Committee, filed two cases with Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka on December 9 bringing defamation and sedition charges against him.

Accepting both the cases, the judge summoned the lawyer asking him to appear before it today in the defamation suit.

The court asked Shahabagh police to submit a report on execution of arrest warrant by February 10.  

The court also asked the police to submit an investigation report in connection with the sedition case on that day.

According to the case statement, Dr Tuhin gave a speech in Water Lily Garden Auditorium in East London on November 30 last year defaming Bangabandhu and several sections of the Constitution.
