Arrest warrant against Ekram murder accused Minar
A Feni court today issued an arrest warrant against BNP leader Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury Minar, the prime accused in the case filed for the murder of Fulgazi upazila chairman Ekramul Haque.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Alamgir Mohammad Faruky issued the warrant for not complying with a High Court order that had asked Minar to surrender before a lower court in two weeks, which expired today.
Earlier on July 20, The SC also stayed the High Court’s July 15 order that granted bail to Minar in the case.
Minar’s lawyer Abdul Mannan Khan told the court that his client was critically ill and undergoing treatment at Birdem Hospital in Dhaka.
Ekramul, 45, who was also president of Phulgazi upazila Awami League, was shot and then burnt to death in his car in Feni town on May 20.
Detectives of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Minar from a house in Kachukhet area in the capital on May 27.
He was freed on bail from Feni District Jail on July 17.
Police have so far arrested 31 people including Mahtab. The HC granted him six months' bail on July 15 and he was released from jail two days later.
