Arrest killers of Firoz, demand Joypurhat traders
Vegetable traders of Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat have threatened to go for tougher agitation if police did not arrest the killers of trader Firoz Al Mamun within the next 15 days.
Firoz Al Mamun, 35, a vegetable trader of the upazila was shot dead and mugged Tk. 35 lakh by a gang on July 13 afternoon at Kasiagari village while he was returning home after drawing the money from Uttara Bank branch in the town.
Md. Abdur Rahim, another trader was also injured on the day as the gang stabbed him.
Demanding arrest of the killers and recovery of looted money, the vegetable traders, villagers and family members of the deceased took to the streets on Friday afternoon and also formed a human chain.
They brought out a mourning procession at Panchbibi town in the afternoon which paraded different roads.
At the rally during the human chain, the speakers alleged that police remained indifferent to the killers. They asked police to be active and arrest the killers. Otherwise, the traders would launch a tougher agitation within 15 days, they warned.
Despite several attempts, Abdur Rashid Sarker, OC of Joypurhat Sadar police station could not be contacted as he was not receiving the phone call of this correspondent yesterday.
