Protest at lewd comments led to confinement, 'threats to shoot dead' husband

A journalist couple filed a case yesterday accusing Bangladesh Ansar men stationed at Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation in the capital's Shyamoli of assaulting and confining them after the wife protested lewd comments they passed at her on Thursday.
Towhid Santo, senior reporter of Asian Television, and his wife Shajeda Sweety, staff correspondent of Banglanews24.com, took treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Dhaka Reporters Unity in a statement expressed concern and demanded bringing the responsible to book immediately. Mohammadpur police said no arrest has been made.
Sweety said she was talking over the phone near the camp around 10:30pm with Towhid close by when two uniformed Ansar men passed the comment. When she protested, they violently shoved her to the ground, she added.
Following an altercation, six to seven Ansar men in plainclothes came up, beat the two with rifle butts, confined them inside the camp and threatened to shoot Shanto, said Sweety.
The locals heard their cries and rescued them, she told The Daily Star.
Denying the allegations, Mohammadpur Thana Ansar & VDP Officer (in-charge of the Ansar members) Yousuf Hossain Chowdhury said the couple entered the complex without permission and misbehaved with the Ansar men.
