Alleged robber killed in mob beating
An alleged robber was beaten to death by a mob at Bhalukia village in Feni Sadar upazila early yesterday.
The name of the deceased, aged about 28 years, could not be known as of 5:00pm yesterday.
Police quoted locals as saying that a gang of 10/12 armed robbers stormed into the house of Mohammad Alamgir of the village at around 3:00am.
The gang looted cash, gold ornaments and other valuables from the house, confining the family members to a room, said Mohammad Shahinuzzaman, officer in-charge of Feni Sadar Model Police Station.
Hearing screams of the family members, villagers rushed to the spot and surrounded the robbers. They caught one of the gang members while others managed to flee with the booty.
The villagers beat up the robber mercilessly, leaving him critically injured. He was taken to Feni Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
Away in Dinajpur, police arrested two alleged robbers from College Bazaar area in Birampur upazila on Sunday, reports UNB.
The arrested are Ziaur Rahman, 38, of Bajitpur village, and Mamunur Rashid, 36, of Hatishal village in Nawabganj upazila.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Birampur police raided the area around 6:00pm and arrested the duo while they were taking preparation to commit a robbery in the area, said Shakila Parvin, officer in-charge (investigation) of Birampur Police Station.
