ALCWC meet on May 14
The Awami League Central Working Committee (ALCWC), the highest decision-making body of the ruling party, will hold an emergency meeting on May 14 to come up with concrete measures to make the organisation stronger in the coming days.
Decisions on reorganising the party's grassroots and completing long-awaited councils at grassroots level will be taken at the meeting, sources in the party said.
At the last meeting of ALCWC on April 5, AL President Sheikh Hasina expressed her annoyance over the party's organisational weakness, but the meeting ended without making any headway. The AL chief then asked all seven organising secretaries to submit reports of their respective divisions in this regard.
Recent seven-murder case in Narayanganj will also be discussed in the next meeting, the sources added.
Besides, the AL parliamentary board will finalise the party nominee for Barisal-5 by-polls at a meeting to be held at Prime Minister's official residence at Gono Bhaban at 5:00pm today.
The constituency felt vacant as its lawmaker Shawkat Hossain Hiron died on April 9. The election will be held on June 12.
Sources in the party said Hiron's widow Jebunnesa Hiron was likely to get party ticket.
