AL man held over Ekram murder
Rapid Action Battalion arrested an Awami League activist last night for his suspected link with the killing of Phulgazi upazila chairman Ekramul Haq in Feni.
With this, a total of 23 people have been arrested in connection with the murder, reports our Feni correspondent.
Acting on a tip-off, members of Rab-7 arrested Abul Hossain Jahangir, 45, from Gazaria Kandi village in Sharshadi union of Feni Sadar upazila around 11:30pm, said Major Mohiuddin, commander of Rab camp in Feni.
Ekram, also president of Phulgazi upazila AL unit, was killed inside his vehicle and burnt alive on May 20.
The arrestee will be handed over to police after interrogation, the Rab commander said.
Five days into the murder, Feni police arrested Jihad Chowdhury, the prime suspect in the gruesome murder of Phulgazi upazila chairman Ekramul Haq.
Jihad, also known as Jahid, is the joint general secretary of Phulgazi AL and a close aide to Feni-2 AL lawmaker Nizam Hazari.
Two days later, Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Feni BNP leader Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury Minar, the lone named accused in the case filed by the family members of Ekram.
Minar, also convener of Feni unit Jatiyatabadi Tanti Dal, arrested from the capital's cantonment area.
Intra-party feuds and rivalry over establishing supremacy in Phulgazi were the reasons behind the murder, Rab told a press briefing earlier quoting eight arrestees who took part in the killing mission.
