AL man beaten dead over land dispute

An Awami League activist was beaten to death by an unidentified gang near Bien Bazar in Shibganj upazila of the district on Friday night.
The dead was identified as Mukul Biswas, 40, son of Rabiul Islam alias Tunu Biswas of Namo Tikri village under Mobarakpur union of the upazila. He was an activist of the ruling party's upazila unit.
Officer-in-Charge Jubayer Ahmed of Shibganj Police Station quoted witnesses as saying that said Mukul along with his three friends was coming to Shibganj from Mobarakpur in a three-wheeler.
When the vehicle reached near Bien Bazar at around 8:00 pm, a gang of criminals waylaid it and swooped on Mukul. They beat him dead on the spot while his friends fled the scene.
Being informed, police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Adhunik Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The murder was a sequel to a previous enmity with Mukul's uncle Afzal Hossain over a piece of land at the village, said the OC.
