AL candidate withdraws nomination
Anwar Hossain, an Awami League candidate for Narayanganj-5 by-elections, withdrew his candidature today, the last day for the withdrawal of nominations papers.
Hossain, president of AL Narayanganj city unit, has withdrawn his nomination as his party has decided to give support to Jatiya Party candidate Selim Osman, reports our Narayanganj correspondent quoting the AL leader.
“I talked to the high commands of my party after filling my nomination but they asked me to withdraw my candidature,” Hossain said while addressing a press conference organised at his Narayanganj house after withdrawing the papers.
“The party has decided to support the Jatiya Party’s candidate and help him get elected,” he added.
“I have withdrawn the nomination showing respect to my party’s decision,” he added.
The Narayanganj-5 constituency fell vacant as Nasim Oslam, a lawmaker from JP, died on April 30.
