Accused dies in Ctg police custody
An accused in a case filed under the women and children repression prevention act died in police custody soon after he was arrested by police in Chittagong city early today.
The deceased is Rokonuzzaman, 45, a resident of Ehsan City Residential area in the port city, report our Chittagong correspondent.
Victim’s wife Shimu Akhter however claimed that police beat her husband to death during the arrest.
Amir Hossain, a sub-inspector of Panchlaish Police Station and also the IO in the case, said a joint team of Panchlaish and Bakolia arrested Rokonuzzaman from his Bakolia house around 1:20am.
But instead of taking him to the police station, the law enforcers sent him to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital immediately as he felt sick after the arrest, the SI said.
Doctors declared Rokonuzzaman dead when he was rushed to the CMCH around 1:40am, he added.
Talking to the correspondent, Shimu Akhter claimed that the law enforcers raided their house around 1:00am and beat her husband to death.
One Mazed Begum lodged the case against Rokonuzzaman, 45, on June 5 with Panchlaish Police Station in the city.
