Abduction, killing of Shanta sparks protest
Abduction and killing of college girl Afroza Akhter Shanta, 21, has sparked protest in the town but police are yet to arrest main accused Nazmul Hasan, 25.
Father of the deceased Asadullah Matbor of Ranas Rohitpur filed a case with Sadar police station yesterday, accusing Nazmul, his father Abdus Samad, relative Ali Ahmed Biplob and 2 to 3 unidentified others.
Protesters from all walks of life formed a human chain at Jubilee Road in the town at noon yesterday demanding trial of the killers when an ambulance was carrying the body of Shanta after her post-mortem.
Shanta, third year student of Accounting at Haraganga College, was abducted and later strangled allegedly by Nazmul and his accomplices as she turned down his love offer.
Her body was recovered from an ambulance on Monday night, three days after her abduction, kept in front of General Hospital in the town, police said.
Shanta was abducted on Saturday when she came to Khalest area to attend coaching classes, they said.
Officer in-charge of Sadar Police Station Shahidul Islam quoting the arrestees, said the abductors took Shanta to Savar in Dhaka on the same day.
On Monday afternoon, they brought her to a medical college hospital in Savar where the doctors declared her dead.
“The whole thing is still shrouded in mystery” the OC said.
Later her body was taken to General Hospital where police seized the body and arrested Ali Amhed.
Nazmul, however, left the ambulance at Muktarpur on way to Munshiganj, he said.
Police are now looking for Nazmul, his father and another woman in connection with the incident, he further said.
