A diverse range of media

A six-day group art exhibition ended on Wednesday at Zainul Gallery, Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA) of Dhaka University. Twenty two artists of the 50th batch students of FFA took part in the exhibition with their 38 artworks in diverse media.

Professor Shahid Akhtar Hossain, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) of University of Dhaka (DU) inaugurated the event as chief guest.  Professor Syed Abul Barq Alvi, Dean of FFA of DU; Professor Sheikh Afzal Hossain and Professor Mostafizul Haque of the Department of Drawing and Painting of DU and Tanvir Haider Chaudhury, CEO of Kazi Food Industries Limited were present at the inaugural ceremony as guests.
The participating artists were mostly art teachers, media personalities and corporate executives. It was a good sign that educational institutions and corporate houses appreciated and nurtured arts and lauded artists.
Kantideb Adhikary, an Assistant Professor at the Department of Oriental Art of FFA, Dhaka University displayed two of his artworks at the exhibition. The artworks titled “Life is Not So Easy –11 and 12” are done on acrylic on canvas portraying parasites in the cracks of dilapidated walls. The artist brilliantly used balanced colours, amazing textures with a game of light and shadow.   
Assistant Professor Asmita Alam Shammi of the Department of Printmaking of FFA, Dhaka University exhibited an etching aquatint work titled “Seated”. The artwork featured a female figure in a sombre mood. Nurun Nahar Rosy, an animator at Toon Bangla Animation Studio, displayed an aluminum sculpture titled “Mounota”. The work, experimental in nature, depicted two figures of a male and a female exchanging dialogue.  
Pijush Kanti Sarkar, a PYP, Art Faculty of Aga Khan School regularly generates paintings on varied media. At the exhibition, the artist showcased an acrylic on canvas titled “Breaking Wall-29”. Soul Hacha is an artist, animation director and character designer at Toon Bangla Limited. He is a well-groomed watercolourist as well. The artist showcased two of his watercolours depicting the multitude shades and beauty of nature.
Chinmaye Sikder, Assistant Professor of the Department of Ceramic of FFA, DU displayed a tile painting titled “Life” while Nazia Masud Khan, an assistant teacher at Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, exhibited her artwork Naree-1 (acrylic). Shameem Akanda showcased a 3D painting titled “The Pillar” (mixed media) at the exhibition.     
Other participating artists -- Ali Sagar Shahidullah, Anarul Haque Anar, Hadeatul Islam Sayor, Mahjabin Rahim Moitry, Iqbal Haider, Saiful Hoq Shadal, Muhammad Mehedi Hasan, Nargis Akhter, Nazmoon Akhter Kakoli, Provati Jharna, Rubaiat Shaila, Sabbir Ahmed, Suneet Kumar and Ujjal Kumar Mazumder – displayed their artworks in diverse media including woodcarving and tapestry.     
The exhibition was dedicated to the birth centenary (1914-2014) of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin who along with other pioneering visionaries started the journey of Charukala (presently FFA of DU) in this part of the world.
