9 Indian fishermen held in Bay, trawler seized
Bangladesh Navy personnel on Monday arrested nine Indian fishermen along with a fishing trawler for their illegal entry into Bangladesh maritime boundary.
The detainees are Abbas Jalali, Rakib Jalali, Alamgir Khan, Alauddin Mollah, Ismail Mollah, Bagambar Bhuiyan, Nazim Uddin Mollah, Muktipada Samanta and Sanatan Giri.
They all are from different villages in Patharprotima upazila of South 24 Parganas district in Paschimbanga, India.
A patrol team of Bangladesh Navy rounded up the nine fishermen along with a fishing trawler 'FV Jaba' from the Fairway buoy in the Bay, some 90 nautical miles off Mongla Port, on charge of illegal fishing, said ASNN Mortaza, petty officer of Bangladesh Navy.
They were handed over to Mongla police station yesterday and sent to Bagerhat jail through a court in the afternoon, said Manjur Elahi, sub-inspector of the police station.
