8 arrested in connection with rape of 26-year-old in Faridpur

Police arrested eight people in separate drives at Boalmari and Alfadanga upazilas of Faridpur between yesterday and today in a case filed over raping a 26-year-old woman.

The arrestees are, Mintu Mollah (35), Hasmat Fakir (32), Joinal Abedin (29), Mafijul Mollah (21), Raju Mollah (20), Sahin Sheikh (21), Saiful Islam (35), Ripul Mollah (39), all residents of Faridpur district.

According to the case statement, the 26-year-old victim was taken to an orchard by Mintu Mollah where he raped her with two of his associates on Tuesday.

Sensing the matter, five other men went to the orchard, beat up Mintu and raped the woman.

"On information, police conducted several drives at villages under Alfadanga and Boalmari upazila and arrested the eight accused rapists yesterday and early today," said Mohammad Nurul Alam, officer-in-charge of Boalmari Police Station.

"The victim filed a case with Boalmari Police Station against the eight," added the OC.
