71 candidates in five Mymensingh UZs

Seventy-one candidates in five upazilas of the district will vie for chairman, vice-chairman and woman vice-chairman posts in the election slated for March 15.
The upazilas are Dhubaura, Phulpur, Gouripur, Muktagachha and Phulbaria. Both Awami League and BNP-backed candidates face rebels in the upazilas.
AL has so far expelled six rebel candidates in Dhubaura and Gouripur upazilas while BNP expelled three in the two upazilas.
In Phulpur upazila, six candidates are contesting for the post of chairman. They are Abdul Khaleque (AL), Atual Karim Russel (AL rebel), Md Johirul Islam (AL rebel), Shah Akram Hossain (AL rebel), Ankinur Rahman (BNP) and Abul Bashar Akanda (BNP rebel).
Candidates contesting for vice-chairman post are Mohammad Habibur Rahman (AL), Mohammed Nurullah Pathan (BNP), Md Mosharraf Hossain (BNP rebel), and Md Romizul Islam (independent).
Woman vice-chairman contenders are Milon Rani Sarker (AL), Rabeya Parvin (AL rebel), Begum Ferdousi (BNP), and Monuara Khatun (BNP rebel).
In Gouripur upazila, Ali Ahmed Khan Pathan (AL), Md Sharif Hasan Anu (AL rebel),  Ahmed Tayabur Rahman (BNP), Md Mukbul Hossain (BNP rebel), and Md Shamsul Hoque (BNP rebel) will vie for the post of chairman.
Candidates contesting for the vice-chairman post are Ziaul Abedin (BNP) and Md. Johirul Huda (BNP rebel),  Md. Sanaul Haque (AL) and Harun-ur-Rashid (AL rebel).
Woman vice-chairman candidates in the upazila are Rabeya Islan Dolly (AL), Zakaria Sultana Shanta (AL rebel), and  Tanjan Chowdhury (BNP)
In Muktagachha upazila, AL-backed candidate Billal Hossan Sarker AL rebel Md Ishhak Ali Sarker and BNP-backed candidate Zakaria Harun are in the race for chairman post.
Four candidates are contesting for the post of vice-chairman in the upazila. They are Md Golam Shaharier (BNP) Kazi Morsheduzzman Palash (BNP rebel),  Mohammad Tarek (AL) and Mushfiqur Rahman (AL rebel).
Candidates for the post of woman vice-chairman are Aziza Rahman (BNP),  Nazmun Nahar (BNP rebel),  Runi Das (AL) and Rashida (independent).
In Dhubaura upazila, Abdul Mannan Akanda (AL), Md Mojibur Rahman (AL rebel) Md Moznu Miah (AL rebel), Mofiz Uddin (BNP), Abdul Awal (BNP rebel), Md. Azharul Haque (BNP rebel),  Md. Md Monjural Hoque (BNP rebel) and Samsul Rashid Maznu (BNP rebel) are running for chairman post.
Seven candidates are in the race for vice-chairman post. They are Md Abul Fazal (BNP), Md Jamsad Ali (BNP rebel), Lutfur Rahman Fakir (BNP rebel), Shawkat Osman (AL), Johirul Islam Talukder (AL rebel), Monjurul Haque (AL rebel) and  Mustafa Kamal Hossain Khan (AL rebel) .
AL-backed candidate Agustina Chesam (AL), AL rebel Kajal Rekha BNP-backed candidate Nasima Khatun BNP rebel Hashi Akhtar  and  independent candidate Selima Khatun are contesting the election for the post of vice-chairman (reserved for women).
In Phulbaria upazila,  eight people are running for the post of chairman. They are Abdul Malek Sarker (AL), Md Asaduzzaman (AL rebel), Azizur Rahman (BNP), Md Anwar Hossain (BNP rebel), Md. Abdul Aziz (BNP rebel), Kabir Hossain (BNP rebel), Mofazzal Hossain (independent) and SM Saifuzzaman (independent).
Vice Chairman candidates are Md Abdul Mannan (BNP), Md Azharul Alam (BNP rebel), and  Md Kamruzzaman (AL), and Md Fazlul Haque Shamim (Jamaat).
Three women contesting for the post of woman vice-chairman are Mahbuba Sultana (BNP), Mazeda Khatun (BNP rebel) and  Hajera Khatun (AL).
