7 hurt as drug addicts attack cops in Rajshahi
At least seven railway policemen were injured as some alleged drug addicts attacked them at Rajshahi railway station today.
Police said the injured include a sub-inspector (SI), an assistant SI and a constable of Government Railway Police (GRP) and four constables of Railway Nirapotta Bahini (RNB).
The seven have been admitted to Rajshahi Police Lines Hospital, said Mustafizur Rahman, a sub-inspector of RNB.
A group of drug addicts severely beat up Kawsar Hossain, 45, a constable of RNB, with bamboo sticks and brickbats at the station platform around 9:30am as he drove them out while taking hemp at the platform around 3:00am, the SI added.
As his colleagues rushed to the spot, the addicts swooped on them, leaving six more law enforcers injured, Mustafizur Rahman told our Rajshahi correspondent.
On information, a team of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police rushed in and fired three shots from their shotguns to disperse the attackers.
