53 held in Chandpur, Satkhira
Law enforcers in overnight drives detained at least 53 people from different parts of Chandpur and Satkhira districts on Friday for their suspected plans to commit criminal offences in the areas.
Police detained 23 people from different parts of Chandpur district during separate overnight raids from Thursday night to Friday morning, reports our Chandpur correspondent.
Of them, 15 people belong to BNP while 8 to Jamaat-e-Islami politics said Md Amir Zafar, superintendent of police in Chandpur. The arrestees were also accused of several criminal charges, the SP said.
Earlier, a case was lodged against 22 named BNP leaders and activists and 35 unnamed men following a petrol bomb throwing incident that left a truck helper killed.
Meanwhile, police in an overnight drive arrested around 30 people, including eight leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, from different places of Satkhira district on Friday for their alleged plan to carry out sabotage during the ongoing BNP-led 20-party alliance-sponsored blockade, reports UNB.
Police sources said they in separate drives arrested 30 people in connection several cases filed for planning to carry out subversive activities.
Sub-inspector Kamal Hossain, district police information officer, confirmed the incident.
