5 students hurt in Kurigram explosion

Five students were injured in an explosion at their school’s Independence Day celebration in Phulbari upazila of Kurigram today.
Unidentified people exploded a powerful cracker on the ground of Jashimia Model High School leaving the female students injured slightly, Bazlur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Phulbari Police Station told The Daily Star1.
The injured Nisha, Ayasha, Jahura, Labonya and Reshma, all students of class nine of the school, were admitted to Phulbari Upazila Health Complex, the OC said.
Mahbubul Haque Shaud, a teacher of the school, said the explosion took place on the school ground while students were forming a human flag marking the 44th Independence Day in the morning.
Most of the injuries sustained was on the students’ faces, the teacher said.
The function was suspended for half an hour following the incident, he added.
Abed Ali, the headmaster of the school, said anti-liberation forces might have carried out the attack as there was a lack of adequate security during the celebrations.
