Five people including two policemen sustained minor injuries as blockaders hurled six crude bombs targeting Gonojagoron Mancha in Bogra today when its activists were taking preparation to form a human chain.
All the injured received primary aid from a local hospital, reports our Bogra correspondent.
Around 150 activists of Gonojagoron Mancha gathered at Satmatha intersection to form a human chain demanding severing diplomatic relations with Pakistan for its reaction over the execution of war criminal Abdul Quader Mollah.
All on a sudden, at least six crude bombs were thrown from the crowd only 40 yards off the mancha around 11:00am, creating panic among the activists, said Gaziur Rahman, assistant superintendent of police in Bogra (Sadar circle).
The on-duty police personnel fired 20 rubber bullets to bring the situation under control, the ASP added.
According to the witnesses, Uzzal Kumar Roy, assistant superintendent of police in Bogra (B circle), Rashid, a constable of District Special Branch, Masudur Rahman Helal, coordinator of the Gonojagoron Mancha, Advocate Dulal Kundu, an activist of the Mancha, and a rickshaw puller whose name could not be known immediately received minor injuries from the bomb splinters.
Police however denied that the ASP and the constable were injured in the attack.
Later, the activists, who were also protesting Thursday’s police action on the Gonojagoron Mancha activists in Dhaka, formed the human chain for half an hour from 11:30am.
