5-day remand for SQ Chy's manager
A Dhaka court yesterday placed Mahbubul Ahsan, manager of war crimes convict Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, on a five-day remand in a case filed for leaking out the draft verdict on the convict.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Rezaul Karim passed the order after Md Shahjahan, an inspector of the Detective Branch of police and also investigation officer of the case against the convict, produced him before it with a 10-day remand prayer.
Earlier on Monday, detectives arrested Ahsan in the capital's Mahakhali area for his alleged involvement with supplying money for leaking the draft verdict.
In his remand prayer, the IO said two staff of the International Crimes Tribunal -1, cleaner Nayon Ali and office assistant Faruk Hossain, who had confessed to their involvement earlier, involved Ahsan in the leak.
As the two staff said Ahsan had supplied the money to leak the draft verdict, he needs to be remanded to collect more information about the incident, the IO said.
The draft verdict in the BNP lawmaker's case was leaked a day before the verdict was handed down by the ICT-1 on October 1 last year. SQ Chowdhury was sentenced to death for committing crimes against humanity and genocide during the Liberation War in 1971.
