43 lose security deposits in 9 Pabna upazilas

Forty-three candidates in nine upazilas of the district have lost their security deposits for failure to get one-eighth of the cast votes in the respective posts in the fifth phase of upazila parishad election held on March 31.
Of them, 13 contested the election for chairman posts, 24 for vice-chairman posts and six for woman vice chairman posts, district election office sources said.
In Sadar upazila, two chairman candidates have lost their security deposits. They BNP rebel candidate Hasanur Rahman Rani and Afzal Hossain Botu. The vice-chairmen candidates, who have lost their deposits, are Md Emdadul Haque, Md Farhan Uddin Habul Sheikh, Md Mohiduul Islam, Md. Rezaul Islam, Sheikh Chunnu, Md Shahidul Islam Lalu and Alhaj Humayun Biswas.
In Bera upazila, six candidates have lost their security deposits. They are chairman candidates Afzal Hossain, Abul Baset Khan and Humayun Kabir Chowdhury. The vice-chairman candidates losing security deposits are Abu Sayed Sheikh, Aleya Begum and Morzina Khatun.
In Chatmohar upazila, chairman candidate advocate Shakhawat Hossain Shako and vice-chairman candidate Md Sirajul Islam have lost their deposits.
In Ishwardi upazila, BNP-backed chairman candidate Md Jerjis Hossain, BNP rebel Nefaur Rahman Raju have lost their security deposits for failure to get one-eighth of the votes cast. Two vice-chairman and a woman vice- chairman candidates have lost their deposits on the same ground. They are Abdur Rashid, Emik Hossain and Rumana Yeasmin.
The chairman candidates, who have lost their security deposits in Sujanagar upazila are AJM Ali Biswas and Mehedi Hassan Raja. The vice-chairman candidates losing deposits are Ziaur Rahman, Md. Mofazzal Hossain, Mohammed Ali Jinnah, Md Shahidul Islam, Md Siddikur Rahman and Sharmin Chowdhury.
In Santhia upazila, five, including two chairman candidates, have lost security deposits. They are chairman candidates Md Emdadul Haque and Md Salah Uddin Khan, and vice-chairman candidates Md Kamruzzman, Md Shamsul Haque and Anjuara Begum.
Four vice-chairman candidates have failed to get one-eighth of the cast votes in Atghoria and Vangura upazilas. They are Abdus Sattar, Md Shariful Islam and Md Shahidul Islam of Atghoria and Anisur Rahman of Vangura.
In Faridpur upazila, BNP rebel chairman candidate Moloy Kumar Kundu, and vice-chairman candidates Md Akramul Alam, Md Aslam Hossain and Ruhul Amin, and woman vice-chairman candidate Shamima Parvin have lost their security deposits.
