3kg gunpowder seized, 8 Jamaat men held in Satkhira

Joint forcers arrested eight activists of Jamaat-Shibir and seized three kilogrammes of gunpowder conducting drives in different areas of Satkhira till this morning.

The gun powder was seized from the possession of Moktar Ali Gazi, 52, in Bhomra Bondar area of Sadar upazila around midnight, Azam Khan, an inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police, told The Daily Star.

The detainees were accused in several cases filed for the recent spate of violence unleashed by the activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir, during hartals and blockades in the turbulent district, Khan added.
