38 Indian trespassing fishermen held in Bagerhat
Bangladesh Navy arrested 38 Indian fishermen and seized three trawlers for illegally fishing inside the Bangladeshi maritime boundary in Bagerhat on Thursday.
The navy personnel, who were in a patrol ship “BNS Shaheed Mohibullah”, caught the fishermen in Fairway Buoy area in the Bay of Bengal, some 80 nautical miles off Mongla port. All of them were handed over to Mongla Police Station in the wee hours of yesterday.
All of the detainees hail from South 24 Parganas district in India's West Bengal state, Sub-inspector Monjur Elahi quoted the navy personnel as saying.
All of them will be tried under the special act on maritime fishery, he said.
A case was filed against them.
