35-year-old with Covid-19-like symptoms dies in Madhupur
A man suffering from cold, cough and fever died in Tangail's Madhupur upazila today.
The deceased is Hobibur Rahman Hobi, 35, of Tekkar Bazar village under Mohishmara union. He worked as a hawker in Gazipur, but had returned to the village on March 22 after falling ill, our correspondent reports quoting Kazi Motaleb Hossain, chairman of Mohishmara union parishad.
Hossain said Hobi had fever when he returned from Dhaka.
Hobi had diarrhoea since yesterday, had started vomiting blood in the morning today and died at noon, the UP chairman added.
Confirming the matter, Arifa Johura, upazila nirbahi officer in Madhupur, told The Daily Star that when informed, a medical team from the upazila health complex was sent to the house to collect sample.
The deceased's other family members were also kept in isolation, she added.
When contacted, Dr Mohammad Waheduzzaman, civil surgeon in Tangail, told The Daily Star that a medical team comprising Dr Rubina Yeasmin, the upazila health officer in Madhupur and a physician trained by the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), went to the house to collect the deceased's sample.
"The sample will be sent to Dhaka for examination to confirm whether he was infected with coronavirus," the civil surgeon said.
"The deceased will be buried under the supervision of the same team," he added.
