33 Malaysia-bound people held, alleged trafficker arrested

Police detained 33 Malaysia-bound people from Rezukhal area in Ramu upazila of the district early yesterday.
They also arrested a trafficker named Nurul Islam, 26, of Dhoapalang village in the upazila from the spot.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saikhul Ahmed Bhuyan of Ramu Police Station said law enforcers, acting on a tip-off, raided the area at around 1:30am and arrested 33 people.
During interrogation, the arrestes said they were gathered in the area by some brokers who promised to take them to Malaysia by trawler. They also took Tk 10,000 to Tk one lakh from them for the purpose.
The arrestees hail from Comilla, Narsingdi, Habiganj, Jessore, Jhenidah and Chittagong districts.
Police filed a case against the arrestees and yesterday produced them in a court that sent them to jail.
Meanwhile, Chokoria Police on Tuesday arrested three traffickers while they were sending five youths to Malaysia.
