3 UPDF men held with arms, ammo in Khagrachhari
Army personal arrested three activists of United People's Democratic front (UPDF) with arms and ammunition from Prafulla Ranjan Karbaripara area under Panchhari upazila of the district early yesterday.
The arrestees are Suran Tripura, 30, son of Naba Kumar Tripura and Mahandra Tripura, 32, son of Milan Bhushan Tripura from Maratila area, and Kathang Tripura, 32, son of Surendra Tripura from Surendra Headmanpara area in the upazila.
Acting on tip-off, army personal conducted a raid at Prafulla Ranjan Karbaripara area at around 3:30am and arrested the UPDF men. The army men seized two rifles, one pistol, 42 bullets and receipts for toll collection from their possession.
Officer-In-Charge Abdus Samad Morol of Panchhari Police station said the arrested UPDF men and seized arms and ammunition were handed over to the police in the morning.
A case against the tree was filed with the police station concerned under Arms Act.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees said they that they are members of United People's Democratic Front, the OC added.
Contacted, Niran Chakma, press and information secretary of UPDF, said army personal arrested the innocent UPDF activists.
Our Benapole correspondent adds: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized eight bombs, one pistols and a bullet from Putkhali area in Benapole yesterday.
Lt Col Mostafijur Rahman, commanding officer of BGB 23 Battalion, said acting on a tip-off, a BGB patrol team conducted a drive in the area and seized the bombs and the pistol while those were being smuggled into the country from India around 7:30am.
However, the smugglers fled the scene sensing presence of the border guards.
A case was filed with Benapole Police Station in this connection.
