Three people were killed and two injured as a covered van rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Comilla Sadar upazila this morning.

Two of the deceased were identified as Sharif Ahmed, 27, son of Abdus Sattar of Gopalpur village in Brahmanbaria; and Shagor, 35, a resident of Chittagong.

Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Moynamati Police Station, said a Chittagong-bound covered van from Dhaka hit a three-wheeler at Jagorjhuli around 7:00am, killing its passengers Sharif and Shagor on the spot and injuring three others.

The injured were whisked off to Comilla Medical College and Hospital where another succumbed to his injuries.

Police seized both the vehicles, but the driver of the covered van managed to flee the scene.
