3 Inqilab journos get bail
Three journalists of the Inqilab got bail today 36 days after their arrest in connection with running a “baseless” report in the Bangla daily.
While granting bail, Metropolitan Magistrate MA Salam cited the importance of their profession and that they had already passed over one month in jail in connection with the case.
The journalists are: News Editor Rabiullah Rabi, Deputy Chief Reporter Rafiq Mohammad and Diplomatic Correspondent Ahmed Atique.
Earlier the accused were denied bail for two times in the case.
The three were picked up on January 16 during a raid conducted by detectives at the office of the Bangla daily and the law enforcers sealed off the press, plate-making and server rooms, and seized three computers.
Before their detention, the law enforcers filed a case against the paper's editor, publisher, chief reporter and a reporter for publishing “baseless” news that Indian forces took part in operations in Satkhira ahead of the January 5 polls.
Meanwhile on February 1, the law enforcers opened the printing press of the Inqilab paving the way for resuming its publication.
