3 get life for killing girl after rape

A Meherpur court yesterday sentenced three youths to life term imprisonment for killing a 15-year-old girl after rape in January 3, 2007.

The lifers are Suruj Ali, 32, son of Jabed Ali, Samshul Alam, 22, son of Azad Ali, and Abdul Jabbar, 35, son of Khokon Ali of Dariapur village in Mujibnagar upazila of the district.

District Additional and Sessions Judge's Court Judge TM Musa handed down the verdict in presence of the convicts.

According to the prosecution, the convicts picked up Mabia Khatun, daughter of Ali Javed of the same village from her residence on the night of January 3, 2007, when none of her family members were present at home.

The gang took Mabia to a nearby field and raped her. Later, they strangled the girl and dumped the body a canal of the village.

The following day, deceased's father lodged a case with Mujibnagar Police Station accusing Suruj, Samshul and Azad in this connection. 

After investigation,  police submitted the charge sheet against the three on May 13, 2007.
