3 die in Ctg microbus cylinder explosion
Three women were killed and five injured in when a gas cylinder of a CNG-run microbus carrying them exploded in Fatikchhari upazila of Chittagong today.
The deceased are Parvin Begum, Sanwara Begum and Shamima Khatun of Harualchhari village in the upazila, reports our Chittagong correspondent.
Among the injured, Tonni Akter, Lovely Akter, Sarmin Akter and Sumi Akter, all aged between 8 and 12, were whisked off to Chittagong Medical Collage and Hospital (CMCH) with severe burn injuries.
The gas cylinder exploded around 1:00pm when it reached at Soabil in the upazila, said Anwar, a sub-inspector (SI) of Bhujpur Police Station.
The explosion sparked a fire in the microbus, killing three of its passengers on the spot and five others injured, the SI said.
The explosion occurred when the passengers were returning to Harualchhari village after receiving an expatriate relative at Shah Amanat International Airport in the port city, the SI added.
Some of the passengers managed to jump off the microbus soon after they notice the fire in the vehicle, said Imran Hossain, son of dead victim Parvin.
