Water Pilferage
Wasa supply line of factory cut, 5 held


A mobile court in a drive against water pilferage and wastage of water found numerous irregularities at an industry at Faujdarhat and arrested five people in this connection.

Acting on a tip-off, the mobile court in a drive at Salimpur of Faujdarhat Industrial area found that M/s Synthetic Resin Products has been pilfering crores of litres of water by setting over 1000 feet long underground pipe lines illegally from the main Wasa line for the last twelve years.

The owners of the industry used to pay Water and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) only Tk 500 to Tk 700 each month for the huge quantity of water it received, sources said.

The court led by Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Magistrate Mohammad Munir Chowdhury, who is also acting as Chittagong Wasa magistrate as an additional duty, disconnected the water supply line and pulled out 40 feet of the pipe line and arrested five employees of the industry.

The court also found that around 35000 gallons of water was stored in the overhead storage tank of the industry.
