Police arrested the couple Golap Miah and his wife Rokeya Begum.

Police quoted the couple as saying that Omar Faruque, a colleague of Golap, who is an employee of HRC group, went to their residence at Tejkuni Para at 8:00pm and finding Rokeya alone in the house, attempted to rape her.

Golap reached home during the tussle between Omar and Rokeya. The couple then tied Omar's legs and hands with rope and started hitting him with a hammer. Hearing screams of Omar, neighbours rushed to the house and rescued him.

Keeping the couple confined to the house, locals informed police and rushed Omar to Al-Raji Hospital at Farmgate where he died at 11:55pm.

Omar, who earlier lived in the house as a sub-let tenant with the couple, left the house about four months ago.
