Fatwa by Rohingya Fanatics
Concern over torturing of housewife

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad yesterday expressed deep concern over torturing of a Rohingya housewife by issuing fatwa (religious edict).

In a statement, they demanded impartial investigation into the incident and exemplary punishment to the culprits.

They also demanded security to the victim and her family.

Quoting a news item published in a national daily, Mahila Parishad said a group of fanatic Rohingyas issued a fatwa of giving 100 lashes to housewife Momtaz Begum as punishment for her alleged illicit relationship with Amir Hossain, a neighbour, at Kutupalang Rohingya camp in Ukhia of Cox's Bazar district.

The statement was singed by SParishad President Hena Das and General Secretary Ayesha Khanam.

It urged the caretaker government to take steps to stop women repression and issuance of fatwa against them.
