BCB to reveal new coach on June 2

Bangladesh Cricket Board will take decisions on the new national team coach and captain for next month's Sri Lanka tour in its June 2 executive committee meeting.

BCB general secretary Mahbubul Anam informed it when he talked with the reporters at the indoors of the Chittagong Divisional Stadium to disclose the outcome of their discussions with the Indian cricket board high-ups, who returned home yesterday.

"I think the problem of appointing a new coach would be solved at the end of this month and we will take the final decision in our next board meeting on June 2. We will announce the national team for the coming Sri Lanka tour on June 4 and have to decide on the captain for the tour in this meeting," informed the long-serving organiser.

"The new coach will not be involved in team selection for the tour," he added.

Bangladesh is expected to leave Dhaka for Colombo on June 17 to play three Tests and three one-day internationals.

Although Mahbub didn't elaborate on anything regarding the captain for the Lanka trip, it was learnt that the board is not in favour of giving Habibul Bashar another chance to lead the one-day side.

And they are looking forward to an announcement from Bashar about his one-day retirement after the ongoing home series against India. The most successful Bangladesh skipper Bashar yesterday reiterated that he will disclose his plan after the series.

"Right at the moment, I am only thinking about the Test series but as I said before, I will give my decision after the completion of the series," he said.

BCB general secretary however was not ready to say anything in detail about the captain issue.

"Board has to select the captain and vice-captain before announcing the team for the Sri Lanka tour because right at the moment the two (Bashar and Mohammed Ashraful) were named only for this series," he said.

On their discussions with BCCI president Sharad Pawar and other Indian board officials, Mahbub informed that they agreed on many issues in principle.

"We discussed on a lot of issues including the exchange programmes of different development activities. We also agreed in principle about A team and under-19 tours," said Mahbub.

"They also agreed in principle to play a triangular series also involving Pakistan and we will finalise the time within a month. It was planned to play it during the South Africa tour to Bangladesh but India are in a tight scheduled at that time. We may convert the home series against South Africa into a Test series and three-match one-day series," he informed.

And lastly, he cleared that there is no possibility for Bangladesh to play their first away series in India before 2009.
