Chittagong Test
Third day rained off

Rain continued to play havoc with the first Test as play was called off without a single ball bowled on the third day at the Chittagong Divisional Stadium yesterday.

The ground was waterlogged following overnight and persistent morning showers which forced umpires Daryl Harper and Billy Doctrove to abandon the day's play at 11 o'clock in the morning.

Not only did rain disrupt the first day's play, it allowed only 20 overs to be bowled on the second day.

Rain is also expected today which will make action uncertain at the venue.

"The weather report we received from the met office clearly suggests that there will be more rain. Another spell of rain will be enough to make the ground unfit for the fourth day," informed curator Shafiul Alam.

India were well placed at 384 for 6 after Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly caressed centuries. Wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Dhoni was batting on 36 off only 35 balls having hit six boundaries while Anil Kumble, who is suffering from mild cold, accompanied him with just one run.

The third and final one-day match was also abandoned at this venue for rain on May 15.
