Threat to bomb BSMMU

Law enforcers conducted a massive two-hour search in four buildings and the prison building of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) last night after an unknown phone caller threatened to bomb the university buildings by 7:10pm yesterday.Police said the caller called the Circuit House Road residence of BSMMU's Deputy Superintendent Dr Mohammad Jamal Uddin Khalipha at 6:35pm. His wife received the phone when the caller threatened to blow up Block A, B, C, D and the prison building of the BSMMU at 7:10pm. Jamal's wife informed him of the matter prompting him to disseminate the information to the BSMMU registrar who immediately informed the matter to the police. "Receiving the information from BSMMU, we rushed to the university and conducted a through search for over two hours, but did not find anything," Officer-in-Charge of Shahbagh Police Station Shahidul Islam told The Daily Star last night. The search went on until 9:00pm. During the search, panic gripped patients and visitors of the hospital where Ansar personnel were searching people before allowing them to enter the hospital. As of filing of this report, the Ansar personnel were still searching people before they let them into the hospital. Dr Jamal Uddin lodged a General Diary (GD) with the concerned police station in this regard.
