6 arms seized, 2 arrested in Ctg, Teknaf

Law enforcers recovered six firearms and 12 cartridges, and arrested two people from the port city and Teknaf in this connection in the last two days.

The arrestees were identified as Alam alias Manik and Mohammad Nazrul Islam, police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) sources said.

A mobile team of Bakalia police under Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) in a drive arrested Alam and Nazrul along with five locally-made firearms and 12 cartridges from a bus stand near the Shah Amanat Bridge yesterday morning.

Police recovered the guns and ammunition after searching a bag carried by one of the two arrested who were roaming suspiciously in the area.

Village home of Manik is in Sitakunda upazila while Nazrul hails from Patiya upazila. Bakalia police said they were interrogating the arrestees.

Meanwhile, Rab members in a drive also recovered an abandoned shooter gun from a place near the Rohingya refugee camp at Noapara under Teknaf upazila on Sunday night.

A team of the elite force rushed to the spot following an information that a group of miscreants assembled in the area to commit a crime. The culprits left the place sensing Rab presence.

The shooter gun was found during a search in the area, a Rab press release said.
